From June 4 to June 15 2012, in advance of the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (Cake) on June 16th and 17th, the Adventure School for Ladies will hold a two-week collaborative comics intensive at Chicago’s Read/Write Library and Spudnik Press. Top and emerging ladylike drawers will spend two full weeks, from 10 to 6 p.m. every day, creating and publishing a collaborative comics anthology based on research of gender, race, and economics in the comics industry. This will be available at CAKE upon completion of the course.
Our applications are now closed. You may still view our application form here, now. There are two levels of participation: Mistress and Adventurer. Mistresses are those persons who have been out of school for a minimum of five years and have published or self-published at least five books of any length in that time. Mistress-level tuition fees cost $300 for the entire session, but you must be prepared to present a day of programming during the run of the course. Adventurer-level tuition fees are for all ages and experience levels and currently cost $500 for the two-week session. A down payment on this tuition will be required by May 1. We are working toward lowering these tuition fees through the sponsorship of like-minded organizations, and would be happy to hear from parties interested in establishing scholarships in their name. Every effort will be made to provide free housing for students traveling from elsewhere. We are working toward an all-ages and all-experience level model of inclusion, and strive to accommodate and explore with a diversity of races, genders, sexualities, and interests in our collaboration.
